A Paris Adaptation

Gene Marshall
Mademoiselle Gene Marshall of Monolithic Studios wears a wine two-piece dress accented with brown satin piping designed by miniature couturier PD Root of "Maison PeDais". Complementing the chic ensemble is a dramatic, rich brown hat borrowed from Mattel's Publicity Tour Barbie doll, gloves from D.A.E. Originals, bracelet from Integrity, and earrings from The Couture Touch. The inspiration for Mme. Marshall's dress could very well have come from this Advance Import Adaptation pattern. These sewing patterns were based on trends and styles originating in Paris during the 1950's.

Advance sewing patterns were sold exclusively at JC Penney from 1933 until 1966. In 1948, Advance created a premium line of patterns called Advance Import Adaptation designed for the fashion-forward home sewer. Here are a few favorites courtesy vintagepattern.wikia.com

More Fabulous Finds from the Costume Vaults at Monolithic

Here's another peek inside Monolithic Studio's Costume Vault for some fabulous finds in 1940's daywear modeled by Miss Madra Lord and Miss Violet Waters.

"Flame" Madra Lord from Integrity's Stepping High Collection in "Jonquil Sass" from Robert Tonner's Monica Merrill series.  The classic styling of this coat and dress ensemble lends itself well to any era.  The addition of the fabulous black velveteen tilt hat from PD Root gives this costume a 1940's look.  The combination of yellow with the lush black fur collar and cuffs on the coat gives this ensemble a dramatic flair. I also love the unexpected black and white gingham lining.  The chain belt is actually part of the necklace from Ashton Drake's "Little Black Dress" ensemble, umbrella from Fashion Boulevard, shoes from Integrity.  The "telephone purse" was fashioned from a vintage pin.

Unusual and dramatic hats were a hallmark of the late 1930's and early 1940's.  This fabulous tilt topper is made from wool felt and accented with a marvelous vintage feathered bird trim.  The hat, gauntlet gloves, and striped shell are from The Couture Touch.  The classic plaid jacket from Ashton Drake's Star Wardrobe Collection is paired with a black velveteen skirt from Bogue's Vogues.  Fur stole and purse are from PD Root.  Shoes from Robert Tonner.  Jewelry and cigarette holder are from Ashton Drake.  Modeling this stylish ensemble is "Siren in the Night" Madra Lord.

"Like A Fox" Madra Lord from Ashton Drake wears "Arrival at Port" a fabulous suit ensemble borrowed from Robert Tonner's Brenda Starr Collection.  Gloves are from Integrity, and jewelry from Ashton Drake.  Sorry Brenda....I think Madra is keeping this one!

A change of accessories gives this dress from Ashton Drake's "Warmest Wishes" a sophisticated edge.  The circa 1948, rust-colored, knit dress with teal chiffon cowl and matching hip drape was designed by Tim Kennedy.  I added the dramatic fur-trimmed hat, matching purse, and fur stole; all from PD Root.  The gloves and shoes are from Ashton Drake, the jewelry from Integrity.  Modeled by "Lunch at the Green Parrot" Violet Waters from Ashton Drake.

From the Monolithic Studio's Costume Vault: 1940's Daywear

We are opening the costume vault at Monolithic Studios to share some fabulous 1940's daywear modeled by three of the Studio's brightest stars:  Gene Marshall, Ivy Jordan, and Violet Waters.

Director Ivy Jordan wears the iconic red crepe suit from Brenda Starr's "Reporter In Red" film.  I love the clean lines of this funnel neck jacket.  Jewelry and hat from The Couture Touch, embroidered gloves from the Star Wardrobe Accessory Collection by Ashton Drake, and the handbag from Sandra Stillwell's "A Woman of Means" Adrian ensemble.

Gene Marshall wears the flirty tweed peplum jacket from the 2005 Decade of Dreams Gene Convention paired with the skirt from Ashton Drake's "Fashion Plot" costume, and the blouse from "Hello Hollywood Hello".  The fur muff is from PD Root, hat from Bogue's Vogues, and the gloves and earrings are from Ashton Drake. Feather pin and purse are from The Couture Touch.

Violet Waters in the smart, 2-pc ensemble designed by Dolly Cipolla, and originally worn by Gene Marshall at a "Press Conference" announcing her upcoming USO tour.  Violet makes this costume her own by adding the delightful hat from Madra Lord's "Top This" ensemble.  I removed the original grosgrain trim from the hat and replaced it with a peach braided trim and matching tassels.  The fur drape is from PD Root, handbag and cuff bracelet from Integrity, shoes and gloves are from Ashton Drake.

Gene Marshall in another Brenda Starr ensemble, "Just My Type" tweed suit paired with the corsage and handbag from Ashton Drake's "The Perfect Gift", fur drape from PD Root, and gloves from Ashton Drake.  The scarf and fabulous fur and felt tilt topper are from The Couture Touch.

Gene Marshall shines in the D.A.E. Originals top from their "Starmaker" evening ensemble paired with a wine velveteen skirt.  Fur and gloves are from PD Root, shoes from Integrity, purse from Ashton Drake, and the fun tilt hat from The Couture Touch.
